Usually encountered in formal speech and writing, circumlocution can also refer to speech that is intentionally evasive. The judge coughed and pointed to her watch, clearly impatient with the attorney's tiresome circumlocutions in defense of his client. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: The Ford Mustang is officially unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York, on Apr 17, 1964. That day, the new car also debuted in Ford showrooms across America and almost 22K Mustangs were immediately snapped up by buyers. Named for a World War II fighter plane, the Mustang was one of the first vehicles that came to be known as a “pony car.” Ford sold more than 400K Mustangs within its first year of production, exceeding sales expectations. Ithaca’s Middle School Sources of Strength group was inspired by The Little Hearts Project (thelittleheartsproject.org), to spread mental health and suicide prevention awareness. Crocheted hearts, offered to all middle and high school students, are attached to a tag with the 988 crisis line number on the front, and an inspirational saying on the back. Mental health matters!

Today, Wisconsin Public Schools observe a day to honor the American's Creed, written in 1917 by William Tyler Page, a messenger in the U.S. House of Representatives. His essay was judged the "best summary of American political faith" in a national contest. When an observance day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it should be observed on the preceding Friday or the following Monday. I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its Flag; and to defend it against all enemies. —Written by William Tyler Page
