On April 30th Ithaca held a CAREER EXPLORATION EVENT. Students were able to explore careers and the pathway to those careers. The interaction between the vendors and students made for an awesome day of learning about careers and pathways to those careers. Principals are some of the hardest working, yet can be underappreciated within the education system. Without them, a school would not operate on a daily basis. They set the academic tone by encouraging students to thrive. They implement their vision through dedication and determination to provide a successful and positive environment for students and teachers. Today is National School Principals' Day and we honor Mr. Greg Herbst and Mrs. Kathleen Schoen. Without their guidance, leadership, and loyalty Ithaca would not be the school it is today. Thank you!

Ithaca's 8th Grade is FULL of engineers! 8th Grade Science has been studying the differences between potential and kinetic energies, and how they both play a role in motion. To put these principles into practice, teams are designing racers out of recycled materials that can ONLY be powered by the potential energy of stretched out rubber bands. On Thursday, teams will be competing for titles in both speed and distance. Stay tuned for images of the completed designs, as well as team rankings!

Ithaca Middle School Sources of Strength has started a "You Matter" campaign to highlight that ALL members of the Ithaca community matter. This banner has positive messaging for all, as well as additional messages for students to take as they need, or write out their own to leave for others. Positive messages have been left on all Middle School lockers, as part of the Middle School campaign. Students can keep them for themselves, or share with someone who could use some encouragement.

Records are meant to be broken! Congratulations to Clayton Lee for breaking the school record in the 1600m run with a time of 4:43.34. The record was previously held by his brother Ryan Lee set in 2021. Catch Clayton and the rest of the Ithaca/Weston High School Track and Field team this Friday at River Valley for their annual Alumni Invitational or Saturday at Riverdale for the Ginger Morrey Invitational.

From Coach Lorenz: Last night the Ithaca/Weston High School track and field team competed at the annual Fennimore Invitational. Top results from the girls events are Kaylee Miller placed 3rd in the high jump, 9th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m; Tristen Peterson placed 6th in the long jump, 5th in the 100m hurdles and 6th in the 300m hurdles; Lia Puig placed 9th in the pole vault; Aubri Koch placed 4th in the triple jump; and the girls 4X100m relay of Aubri Koch, Tristen Peterson, Maggie Kershner, and Kaylee Miller placed 4th. In the boys events, top finishers were Clayton Lee with 2nd in the 1600m and 1st in the 3200m and the boys 4X800m relay of Braysen Garcia-Boland, Conner Montes, Kerrick Thompson, and Sam Jones placed 9th. The Junior Class held their Prom this past Saturday night. Congratulations to Ben Huebsch and Holly King for being voted the 2024 Prom King and Queen. Congratulations to the Junior class for hosting a very fun and successful prom! Thank you for all of your work in decorating and cleaning up after the dance. Thank you to Mr. Herbst, Mrs. Kauffman, Mr. and Mrs. Fetterly and Mr. and Mrs. Andresen for giving your time to help chaperone the dance. We appreciate it! Perks of small and caring communities abound! Ithaca Public Schools takes pride in working to provide as safe of an environment as possible. The Safety Committee meets each month planning for and improving safety in our school and community. As part of an initiative to have as many of our staff and community CPR certified, on Friday, Ithaca hosted CPR certification training for staff. A tremendous thank you to Jeffrey Even of Cazenovia Area Ambulance and Josh Kowalke of City of Reedsburg Ambulance for conducting the training. They provide countless hours of training to our community, and to them we are grateful!

Top finishers for the girls were Kaylee Peterson 2nd in the 100m, 2nd in the 200m, and 1st in the 400m; Aubri Koch 6th in the 400m and 3rd in the triple jump, Tristen Peterson 1st in the 300m hurdles and 1st in the long hump; Jasmine Meyer 10th in the 300m hurdles, and the girls 4X2 relay of Lia Puig, Bailey Wanless, Maggie Kershner, and Jasmine placed 5th. Top boys finishes were Sam Jones 11th in the 400m and 6th in the 800m, Conner Montes 10th in the 1600m, Kayl Ryan 13th in the 1600m and 15th in the 800m, Clayton Lee 1st in the 1600m and 1st in the 3200m, and the boys 4X800m relay of Braysen Garcia-Boland, Conner, Sam, and Kerrick Thompson placed 2nd. As teams, the girls placed 4th and the boys placed 7th. A special congratulations to Clayton Lee who broke the school record in the 3200m run at this meet. He broke the 33-year-old record that was previously held by Josh Clary. Clayton's new record is 10:32.12. The teams compete tonight at Fennimore.
