Wisconsin Day of Observance: Mildred Fish Harnack Day Commemorates the only native-born American known to have been executed by the Gestapo in Nazi Germany. Mildred Fish Harnack was born in Milwaukee in 1902.
On Wednesday, Sept 18, students will be released at 2pm. Elementary pickup will begin at 1:45pm. This is a planned day for professional development for faculty and staff.

Ithaca students are invited to learn new skills in Library class. This week, they learned how to code Bee Bot robots to play the game, "Capture the Kingdom". Along with having a lot of fun, students practiced breaking a complicated problem into smaller steps, working with others respectfully, and reflecting with a growth-mindset when their coding did not turn out the way they predicted.

September is Suicide Awareness Month. Here are 5 steps you can take to #BeThe1To help someone who is having thoughts of suicide:
ASK: “Are you thinking about suicide?” It’s not an easy question to ask, but it can help start a conversation. Studies show that asking people if they are suicidal does not increase suicidal behavior or thoughts.
BE THERE: Listening without judgment is key to learning what the person is thinking and feeling. Research suggests acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce suicidal thoughts.
HELP KEEP THEM SAFE: Reducing access to highly lethal items or places can help prevent suicide. Asking the person if they have a plan and making lethal means less available or less deadly can help the person stay safe when suicidal thoughts arise.
HELP THEM CONNECT: Connecting the person with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) and other community resources can give them a safety net when they need it. You can also help them reach out to a trusted family member, friend, spiritual advisor, or mental health professional.
FOLLOW UP: Staying in touch with the person after they have experienced a crisis or been discharged from care can make a difference. Studies show that supportive, ongoing contact can play an important role in suicide prevention.
You are encouraged to attend one or more community forums, where various Ithaca School Board of Education members will provide information and answer questions about the upcoming referendum. Please joins us as your schedule allows. The first is this Sunday, September 15th at 10:45 a.m. in the Madonna Hall at St Mary's Catholic Church in Keyesville.

The Richland Center/Ithaca cross country teams competed in Boscobel last night, with the girls team finishing third and the boys team finishing first overall out of 15 teams. Individually, Clayton Lee finished 6th overall in the varsity results, and Braysen Garcia-Boland finished 1st overall in the JV results.

September 11 At approximately 8:46 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing 767 loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact left a gaping, burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Reportedly financed by Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda terrorist organization, they were allegedly acting in retaliation for America’s support of Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War, and its continued military presence in the Middle East.

Agenda items will include Homecoming meal discussions and setting fundraisers for this school year. We're always eager to welcome active members!

This initiative provides a dedicated time to come together with passion and strength to address this difficult topic. We can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health and suicide, because just one conversation can change a life. Starting a conversation can help save a life. Studies show people who are having thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks about them in a caring way. The Ithaca PTSO is always in need of volunteers. PTSO provides so much for the school and students, but we need your help in order to continue doing so. We can use student volunteers to help with babysitting during PTSO meetings, checking cards during Bingo Night, running Gingerbread House Night, etc. We always need help from staff and students with shifts during homecoming, activities, even encouraging RR1 sales. Anytime students volunteer, their time is tracked (by the hour) for volunteer hours. If they have 20 hours during their high school career they can fill out the PTSO Scholarship application. Students younger than high school that volunteer, still have their time tracked. Any adults that volunteer, have their time tracked (by the hour) and are entered into our volunteer drawing at the end of the year. Each hour volunteered by an adult is one entry.
Again, we can't do it alone. Your help is always needed and greatly appreciated! We have our first meeting of the school year is tonight, September 10th at 3:30 in Rm 103.
