In February, Ithaca School District elementary students read and voted on their top choice for the Wisconsin Golden Archer book award. Hosted by the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA), this book award is unique because only Wisconsin students are allowed to vote on the winner. "This was a great experience for young students to discuss books and their illustrations critically," said school librarian Emily Zorea. "Students gained experience discussing the theme, artwork, and their reaction to each title after they read it." This year's nominees included The Pigeon Has to Go to School by Mo Willems, The Bad Seed by Jory John, We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan Higgins, King Baby by Kate Beaton, and The Thank You Book by Mo Willems. The title with the most votes at Ithaca was King Baby by Kate Beaton. The state winner will be announced after school districts submit their students' votes in April.
