Next week we'll be celebrating FBLA week. To start the celebration, jars will be delivered to elementary and middle school classrooms and the Commons for DIME WARS to raise money for the March of Dimes. Ice cream treats will be given next Friday, March 5 to the Elementary, Middle School and High School class with the largest donation. Please be generous when donating to this nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies. Thank you!

Virtual camp offers students a realistic and up-close look into a variety of health careers, including the high demand for healthcare professionals in rural and underserved areas. Today in History: 1870 First African American Congressman sworn in - Hiram Rhodes Revels, a Republican from Natchez, Mississippi, is sworn into the U.S. Senate, becoming the first African American ever to sit in Congress. During the Civil War, Revels, a college-educated minister, helped form African American army regiments for the Union cause, started a school for freed men, and served as a chaplain for the Union army.

Each semester, Ms. Sprecher works with the sophomores in Careers class. They learn many facets of being career ready including creating a resume and doing a mock interview. A big thank you to our community members who help out with interviewing the students and offering feedback.
The Ithaca Middle School MathCounts team recently took the online Chapter Invitational qualifying test. These students spent the past 10 weeks practicing and learning new math skills. Participants included Maggie Gschwind, Holly King, Sammy Clary, Xander Sorensen, Abby Plonka, and Allison Durst. Congratulations to Sammy Clary for qualifying for the Chapter Invitational Contest which will be held February 25.

The first 3rd grade invention fair was held on February 12. Six students from Mrs. Bailey’s and Mrs. Kitsembel’s classes came up with some fantastic ideas for new products. In Mrs. Bailey’s class, Kashtyn Alt created a new pasta salad recipe, Brynli Brady created blankets and leg warmers for her toy horse collection, and Kaila Layton created the “Nail Markers” which are markers with a marker on one end and fingernail polish on the other. In Mrs. Kitsembel’s class, Aydin Kloehn came up with a waterwheel tote that catches the water so there isn’t a mess, Lexi Brown came up with a pencil case that attaches directly to your art sketchbook, and Zander Welch created the “Spoontula” where he bolted 3 kinds of wooden spoons/spatulas together for ease of finding and multiple use. Kaila’s “Nail Markers” and Zander’s “Spoontula” represented Ithaca at the Mississippi Valley Gifted and Talented Network’s 3rd Grade Inventor’s Workshop where they were able to share their inventions with other 3rd graders in the area via Zoom on February 16.
