September is Suicide Awareness month. Research shows people who are having thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks after them in a caring way. Findings suggest acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce rather than increase suicidal ideation. Ask a friend or loved one how they are doing (and really listen)--it makes a difference!

May we never forget. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people died in terroristic attacks on our nation. As we remember the events that unfolded that day, may we never forget. Never forget the lives lost. Never forget the heroism of everyday Americans. Never forget the bravery and sacrifice of countless law enforcement officers, search and rescue handlers and animals, fire and emergency servicemen and women. Never forget the search and rescue teams, handlers and animals. Never forget the military servicemen and women who sprang into action to respond, are still responding. Never forget the intense feeling of patriotism that resulted of that terrible day. On the 20th anniversary of that day, let us honor our Americans who were lost by taking some time today and daily to remember their sacrifices. Never forget.
