Word of the Day: Impromptu means "made, done, or formed on or as if on the spur of the moment" or "composed or uttered without previous preparation." When we got word of Caitlin's good news, we threw an impromptu party to celebrate. He made an impromptu speech about honor and responsibility.
This Day in History: Karl Marx publishes Communist Manifesto On February 21, 1848, with Friedrich Engels, published in London by a group of German-born revolutionary socialists known as the Communist League. Arguably the most influential in history, it proclaimed that "the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles" and that the inevitable victory of the proletariat, or working class, would put an end to class society forever.

The Richland Hospital and Clinics December 2022 Athlete of the Month - Congratulations, Josie! Here's what Coach David Klang is saying about you:
"Josie has worked hard and pushed herself and her teammates this season. She brings her drive to every play, whether she has the ball or if she is without the ball. She puts 100 percent effort into her position and has not only helped herself but has helped to push her teammates to be better. Josie has provided our team with excellent leadership this season. Both underclassmen and upperclassmen on the team welcome her leadership and look to her for the leadership she provides.
Josie also possesses great qualities of teamwork and unselfishness. Her positive attitude brings optimism to the game and makes her very coachable. Not only has Josie been a great team leader, but she has also come on offensively for us during December, scoring in double digits in the last two games to help us win two close games. Josie is a very motivated and determined student-athlete. I am very proud to nominate Josie Laue."

Word of the Day: Lyrical Something described as lyrical, adjective, has an artistically beautiful or expressive quality, often one that is reminiscent of song. The most time-honored political speeches in the nation’s history, regardless of subject, all tend to share an elegant, lyrical quality that makes them memorable across the ages.
This Day in History: 1878-Silver dollars made legal. Today, the value of American money is essentially secured by faith in the stability of the government, but during the 19th century, money was generally backed by actual deposits of silver and gold, the so-called “bimetallic standard.” The U.S. also minted both gold and silver coins. With the backing of powerful western mining interests, Bland secured passage of the Bland-Allison Act, which became law on this day in 1878. Although the act did not provide for a return to the old policy of unlimited silver coinage, it did require the U.S. Treasury to resume purchasing silver and minting silver dollars as legal tender.

Word of the Day: Divest To divest something valuable, such as property or stocks, is to sell it. Similarly, to divest yourself of something valuable is to sell it or give it away. And if you divest someone or something of something, you take that thing away from them, or otherwise cause them to lose it or give it up. I suppose it really is time to divest the Christmas tree of its ornaments, and stow it all away.
This Day in History: On February 15, 2003, millions of people across over 600 cities worldwide take to the streets to protest the impending invasion of Iraq. On February 15th, National Wisconsin Day recognizes The Badger State. Rich in copper, lead, forest and fertile farmland, Wisconsin became the 30th state on May 29, 1848. In 1634, French explorer Jean Nicolet was the first European to reach Wisconsin while seeking a Northwest passage to China. A mining boom, not fur trading, led to the nickname The Badger State. The miners burrowed into the hillsides much like badgers for shelter. The first wave of settlers to the area also began the uprooting of the Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Chippewa and other indigenous people.

The second graders would like to thank Lieutenant Czys and Rambo for their recent visit. Lieutenant Czys demonstrated how Rambo obeys commands and what he is trained to do. The students learned how Lieutenant Czys and Rambo work together as a team to help keep the community safe. Their visit was a valuable extension to the important message students discussed in a second grade story called Officer Buckle and Gloria.
